Logline

Six diverse Canadians, each with their own trauma narrative, embark on an immersive, transformational journey experiencing India’s ancient traditions of wisdom and culture, sparking a national conversation of healing and hope for Canada.

The Challenge

Canada is admired for its beauty, diversity, and peaceful identity — yet beneath this image lie deep social challenges. Many communities continue to struggle with intergenerational trauma, intimate partner violence, mental-health crises, first-responder burnout, gun violence, and rising polarization. Newcomers often face isolation and cultural adjustment, while Indigenous peoples continue to be harmed by centuries of injustice. There is a growing need to move beyond silence and division, and toward pathways of healing, compassion, and social cohesion.

An Unscripted Documentary Film – Part of a Novel Solution

A diverse group of six diverse Canadians will embark on a two week quest for healing and renewal across India. Participants may include a survivor of intimate partner violence, an Indigenous youth leader, a newcomer or refugee, a veteran or first responder, a parent affected by gun violence, a long-time Canadian feeling disenfranchised, and a community educator or advocate. Each person brings a unique story of pain, resilience, and hope — and a shared desire to rediscover humanity, connection, and compassion.

Guided by renowned peacebuilder and meditation teacher Mandar Apte, participants confront long-held wounds and discover their shared humanity against the backdrop of India’s ancient traditions while participating in candid conversations, contemplative practices, and immersive cultural experiences.

The Journey Across India

The journey begins in Mumbai, where participants arrive and ground themselves before the deeper work ahead. From there, they travel to Goa, where breathwork, somatic practices, and community service softens them and builds trust within the group.

In Kerala, they encounter India’s healing wisdom through Ayurveda, meditation, and dialogue—reconnecting mind, body, and emotion. The heart of their experience unfolds in Maheshwar, on the sacred banks of the Narmada River. At sunrise, participants take part in a guided river immersion—a symbolic act of release, forgiveness, and renewal that becomes a turning point in their healing journey. Returning to Mumbai, the group integrates their insights and reflects on the commitments they will carry back into their lives and communities in Canada. Every step of the journey is held with care, dignity, and respect.

Beyond the Film: Creating Ripple Effects

The feature-length documentary (60–90 minutes) will spark a nationwide dialogue on healing, reconciliation, and emotional wellbeing. Through screenings, dialogue circles, and community partnerships, the project invites Canadians to explore what becomes possible when we choose love, empathy and compassion.

Accompanying short films and educational toolkits will support schools, community groups, first-responder organizations, newcomer agencies, and mental-health providers to scale the impact of the work in their demographic settings.

This project aims to seed a movement for compassion, nonviolence, and community healing across Canada.

Join the Movement

This is more than a film — it is a catalyst for change.

It strengthens cultural bridges between India and Canada and reminds us that, even in difficult times, we can choose empathy.

We can choose healing. We can choose love.

And through those choices, we can transform our communities — and our world.
