As the Netherlands navigates questions of belonging, identity, and human connection in a rapidly changing world, six people from across Netherlands from different walks of life embark on a journey across India to discover what it takes to build trust, community, and a shared future.

The Challenge

The Netherlands is one of the happiest and most prosperous countries in the world. Yet many people are asking deeper questions about loneliness, belonging, identity, migration, and what it means to remain connected in a rapidly changing society.

From India With Love – Netherlands explores these questions through the lives of the six participants who embark on a shared journey across India. Coming from different backgrounds, beliefs, professions, and life experiences, they will travel together encountering different facets of India’s culture, wisdom and traditions seeking answers and perspectives to:

    • How do we preserve trust and belonging in a rapidly changing society?
    • How do we remain open-hearted while navigating real concerns about identity, migration, and cultural change?
    • How do we move from loneliness and isolation toward connection and community?
    • What role can ordinary citizens play in shaping the future they wish to leave to the next generation?

Potential Participants (AI images below)

We are currently exploring a diverse range of participants whose stories reflect both the strengths and challenges of Dutch society including a farmer,  someone with strong views on immigration, a Muslim and a Jewish community leader,  a migrant worker, a police officer, an influencer from sport, music or social media, a young person exploring belonging and purpose, a survivor of violence.

The Journey Across India

The participants will begin in Mumbai, a city of ambition, diversity, struggle and possibility. After a few days of settling in, they will travel to Goa, where the pace slows and the group can deepen its connection through nature, community, dialogue and reflection. From there, the journey moves to Kolkata, a city of culture, service, art, intellect and social conscience. Participants will meet people working in their own ways to strengthen communities and restore human dignity. The journey concludes in Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges, where questions of life, death, renewal and belonging have been explored for centuries.

The journey will be guided by Mandar Apte – renowned peacebuilder who lived in The Netherlands for many years and now wants to be part of the solution. Across the journey, he will share breathwork, meditation and reflection practices to support the group in healing and reconciliation.

The group will also meet community leaders, artists, educators, changemakers, spiritual teachers and everyday citizens. They will share meals, participate in service, experience India’s cultural diversity, and spend time listening deeply to one another.

India is not the solution. It is the catalyst. A place that invites people to step outside familiar routines, soften old assumptions, and return home with inner peace and renewed courage, compassion and perspectives.

Beyond the Film: Creating Ripple Effects

The feature-length documentary (60–90 minutes) will spark a nationwide dialogue on healing, reconciliation, and emotional wellbeing. Through screenings, dialogue circles, and community partnerships, the project invites everyday Dutch citizens to explore what becomes possible when we choose love, empathy and compassion.

Accompanying six short films (one per character), and educational toolkits will support partnering organizations to scale the impact of the work in their specific demographic settings.

This project aims to seed a movement for compassion, nonviolence, and community healing across The Netherlands.

Join the Movement

This is more than a film — it is a catalyst for change. It also strengthens cultural bridges between India and Netherlands and reminds us that, even in difficult times, we can choose empathy. We can choose healing. We can choose love. And through those choices, we can transform our communities — and our world.
