Logline

Six French people from different walks of life journey across India, immersing themselves in its culture and spirituality and discovering new possibilities for hope, compassion, resilience and human connection.

The Opportunity

France and India have been connected for generations through culture, education, creativity, travel and human exchange. As explorers, they will step outside their familiar worlds and experience India together—opening themselves to new perspectives, deeper conversations and unexpected connections. At the heart of their journey is a question rooted in one of France’s most enduring values:

What does fraternity mean in France today—and how can we strengthen it?

An Unscripted Documentary Film

The participants may include a young person from Marseille affected by violence, a police officer, someone from provincial France, a French citizen of North African heritage, a survivor or bereaved family member affected by terrorism, and a prominent sporting or cultural figure.

Each brings a personal story, a different lived experience of France and a willingness to explore. Through shared travel, cultural immersion, service, meditation and honest conversation, they discover what can happen when people from very different worlds have the time and space to truly meet.

The Journey Across India

The two-week journey begins in Chennai, where participants immerse themselves in southern India through food, music, dance, cultural traditions, spirituality and everyday life. In Puducherry, where French and Indian cultures have met for generations, they experience a living bridge between the two countries.

The journey continues to Gujarat, where rural life, food, music and celebrations such as Garba and Dandiya sit alongside experiences of community, service and conversations inspired by Gandhi’s legacy of nonviolence. Finally, in Jabalpur, the River Narmada, ancient traditions, music, schools and local communities create space for reflection on life, loss, meaning and renewal. The journey concludes in Mumbai, where the six reflect on what they have experienced and what they want to carry home.

Throughout, they eat, dance, learn, serve, listen, meditate, celebrate together—experiencing India not simply as visitors, but through immersion and human connection. Guided by Indian wisdom teacher Mandar Apte, during the journey they will learn evidence-based practices of yoga, pranayama, Sudarshan Kriya and meditation to develop greater resilience and socio-emotional wellbeing. Participants will be supported at all stages of the project by a trauma-informed psychologist.

Through candid conversations, cultural immersion, and moments of laughter and tears, participants confront past traumas and prejudices, discovering common ground in their shared humanity against the backdrop of India’s culture and wisdom traditions.

Beyond the Film: Creating Ripple Effects

The journey will become a 75–90 minute mother film, weaving six personal stories into one cinematic exploration of fraternity, resilience and human connection.

From the mother film, we will create six short films—one centered on each protagonist and their personal journey. Each of these short films can be used to engage the communities where that story can resonate most strongly.

Together with a practical facilitation resource the films can support conversations in schools, universities, youth organizations, cultural institutions, workplaces, civic forums and communities across France.

Deepening France–India Cultural Exchange

Open societies grow through curiosity, creativity and cultural exchange. From India With Love – France brings people, ideas and institutions across France and India together through cinema, cultural immersion and human encounter.

The project will be developed with French filmmakers, participants, cultural institutions and community partners, creating a genuinely Franco-Indian collaboration and contributing to the growing people-to-people relationship between the two countries.

Join the Movement

This is more than a documentary. It is an invitation to explore what cultural exchange and human connection can make possible.

We welcome French and Indian filmmakers, cultural institutions, educators, civil-society organizations, businesses and partners who would like to help shape the journey.

Let’s make a difference together.
