A Journey of Healing, Dialogue, and Transformation
The Challenge
Australia is admired worldwide for its beauty, diversity, and prosperity — from the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach to vibrant multicultural cities like Melbourne and Brisbane. Yet beneath this idyllic image, deep social challenges persist, including a significant rise in domestic violence against women, a growing mental health crisis affecting all age groups, an alarming increase in youth suicide rates, and ongoing struggles around refugee integration, discrimination, and polarization.
There is an urgent need to move beyond simply ‘being bystanders’ and to actively promote peace, compassion, and social cohesion.
An Unscripted Documentary Film – Part of a Novel Solution
A diverse group of six-eight Australians will embark on an extraordinary two week quest for healing and reconciliation – across India, a land renowned for its ancient culture, wisdom and traditions. Participants can include a survivor of domestic violence, a youth leader, a refugee, a war veteran, an athlete, an educator and a corrections officer. Each person brings a unique story of pain, resilience, and hope. They are united by a shared desire to deepen their own healing and reignite conversations about peace and nonviolence in Australia.

Guided by Indian wisdom teacher Mandar Apte, the group travels across India — beginning in Mumbai, where they witness the vibrant energy of urban communities and grassroots changemakers. In Hampi, amidst the ruins of an ancient civilization, they reflect on cycles of destruction and renewal — both in history and in their personal lives. Finally, in Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges, they engage in a sacred river worshiping ceremony symbolizing our deep connection to nature. During the journey they will learn evidence-based practices of yoga, pranayama, Sudarshan Kriya and meditation to develop greater resilience and socio-emotional wellbeing. Participants will be supported at all stages of the project by a trauma-informed psychologist.
Through candid conversations, cultural immersion, and moments of laughter and tears, participants confront past traumas and prejudices, discovering common ground in their shared humanity against the backdrop of India’s culture and wisdom traditions.
Beyond the Film: Creating Ripple Effects
Our feature-length documentary (60-90min) will inspire audiences and spark a nation wide grassroots dialogue on healing, wellbeing, peace and nonviolence.
We will also produce shorter films, focused on specific social issues such as domestic violence, youth, police, athlete and veteran’s wellbeing, and refugee integration. These will be tailored for relevant stakeholder groups, government agencies, educational institutions, police academies, nonprofits, and community groups. These short films will anchor a slate of practical educational resources, toolkits, and workshops that empower changemakers to take meaningful action within their own communities and organizations — ensuring the project lives on as a sustained movement for promoting peace, nonviolence and compassion.
Join the Movement
This is more than an entertainment film — it is a catalyst for change showcasing real stories of human transformation that will invoke hope, courage and healing. The project will also deepen the cultural bonds between India and Australia, reminding us of our shared humanity – and that even in our darkest moments, we can choose love, we can choose compassion, and in doing so, we CAN change the world.
